This course is designed for those who wish to develop their creativity and gain skills in using quilting, patchwork and appliqué in innovative ways. Under Ekta’s expert guidance, you will learn how to develop your very own quilt design and make a small quilt.
Taking inspiration from a visual of your choice, you will develop a design for your quilt. Ekta will introduce you to design principles like balance, proportion and colour with lots of visual examples. You will learn to choose colour with confidence and experiment with layout of pieces to creatively translate your ideas using patchwork and applique in a contemporary way. Over the weekend you will also experiment with hand and machine quilting techniques and learn to finish your quilt.
You will go away with the quilt top that you have designed yourself and skills to complete the quilt in your own time. Basic sewing skills are required i.e. you should be able to sew in a straight line. Sewing machines and sewing supplies are provided. Please bring along an image (A4 size) that inspires you, enough fabric scarps to cover 150×110 cms quilt top, wadding and a solid colour for the back and edging.

Here’s what our happy students say
“When I saw the workshop advertised on Ekta’s website I decided that I should have a go! Ekta’s work is very creative and of a very high standard (I bought one of her scarves last year!) I had seen some of her quilts at Art in Action and thought I could learn a lot from her. I wasn’t disappointed! Ekta is a very encouraging, enabling and skilful teacher. She is very patient and has a real sense of fun. I enjoyed the workshop tremendously, learnt lots of new skills and came away having started a piece of work that I now have the confidence and skills to complete!”
