Join me for a relaxed, hands-on embroidery taster session at my Open Studios during the Henley Arts Trail. Whether you’re new to embroidery or simply looking for a creative moment during the trail, these taster sessions are designed to introduce you to the joy of stitching in a welcoming and inspiring setting.

Each session offers a different approach to embroidery, allowing you to explore stitching through nature, slow stitch, or text.

Saturday 3rd May – Botanical Stitch

Stitching Nature: Inspired by Botanicals from Around the Studio

In this one-hour session, we’ll take inspiration from seasonal botanicals gathered from the meadows and woodland near the studio. Through simple embroidery techniques, we’ll translate the delicate lines, textures, and forms of leaves or flowers into stitch, capturing the beauty of nature with needle and thread.

What you’ll learn:
How to observe and simplify natural forms for embroidery
Stitches suitable for bringing out botanical details
How to add texture to bring stitched botanicals to life

Take home: A small embroidered botanical motif, a keepsake inspired by the landscape just outside the studio.

About Me, your creative guide

I’m Ekta Kaul, an artist who finds joy in exploring themes of place, history, and belonging through the art of narrative embroidery and abstract painting. Over the past 18 years, I’ve honed my craft as a full time artist, with my works acquired for the permanent collections of esteemed institutions like the Museum of London and the Crafts Council. My book, Kantha, published by Bloomsbury UK, celebrates the rich traditions of this art form. Alongside my work as an artist, I regularly collaborate with world-class institutions, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, to share my passion for stitch with students from around the world.
