Join me for a relaxed, hands-on embroidery taster session at my Open Studios during the Henley Arts Trail. Whether you’re new to embroidery or simply looking for a creative moment during the trail, these one-hour sessions are designed to introduce you to the joy of stitching in a welcoming and inspiring setting.
Each session offers a different approach to embroidery, allowing you to explore stitching through nature, slow stitch, or text.
Sunday 5th May
Explore the expressive possibilities of stitch through line, shape, and texture in this one-hour embroidery taster session. You’ll learn how to use simple hand stitches to create dynamic marks, outline abstract or organic shapes, and experiment with layered textures on fabric. This session is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to loosen up creatively and discover how thread can become a tool for drawing. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with a stitched sample that captures your personal exploration of form and surface.
Take home: A small stitched sampler exploring lines, shapes, and textures—perfect as a reference for future projects or to frame as a mini abstract artwork.

About Me, your creative guide
I’m Ekta Kaul, an artist who finds joy in exploring themes of place, history, and belonging through the art of narrative embroidery and abstract painting. Over the past 18 years, I’ve honed my craft as a full time artist, with my works acquired for the permanent collections of esteemed institutions like the Museum of London and the Crafts Council. My book, Kantha, published by Bloomsbury UK, celebrates the rich traditions of this art form. Alongside my work as an artist, I regularly collaborate with world-class institutions, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, to share my passion for stitch with students from around the world.
